Letter from Kater

Letter from Kater

Hello Todd,

I just wanted to say that it is nice to see Pern in such capable hands. Your mother became one of my favorite authors more then 25 years ago when a friend urged me to read “Dragonflight”. I read the entire series and have continued to purchase every Pern book as soon as it was published. I intend to do so with your books as well. If Gigi decides to publish Pern as well I will probably get those.

I was interested to find out how your mom felt about you all being so involved with her and her work. Was that something she wanted so that she would have you all around (as well as her grandchildren since you would be nearby?!?!?) or did you all fall into supporting her and her writing? I know that Alex is a wonderful webmaster on WOAM and does much to support her there and you do a wonderful job writing with her and taking up with Pern.

Thanks

Kater

Thanks Kater!

I must say that I’m looking forward to anything Gigi wants to write.

I don’t think that Mum ever really considered anyone else writing in her universes — it just sort of happened. At first it was the result of my answering technical questions (like the opening sequence of “Nimish’a Ship”) and it grew from there.

I think we fell in to writing — although it helped a lot to have a successful author as an inspiration!

I’d always wanted to write and got my first typewriter at age 13, having learned to touch type as a requirement — and I have a fair number of stories that I wrote as a teenager buried away somewhere (I keep them and glance over them every now and again).

But Gigi and I did get involved in proofreading her galleys (nowadays called page proofs) when they came in.

I also liked her stories so much that when she was writing “The White Dragon” I was literally reading each page as it came out hot off the typewriter.

I actually don’t live near my mother. I’m in Los Angeles. I do try to visit her once a year and we communicate frequently by phone and more frequently by email.

Cheers,
Todd

Letter from Frieda

Hello,
I bought the book, Dragon’s Kin on Friday and found only one thing wrong with it. It was over too fast! I read it and thoroughly enjoyed each and every word. Please continue writing about the fascinating world of Pern. Thank you.
Frieda

Thanks Frieda!

You’ll probably be happy to hear that Dragonsblood looks like it will be nearly twice as long.

Cheers,
Todd
