Letter from Rhonda

Letter from Rhonda

I would just like to say “THANK YOU!!!”

I so dearly love the Dragon Riders of Pern and your Mum. When I came across the Dragon’s Kin book in the library here in town I was so happy to find another Pern book. I also thought it so very nice that you would write this book with your Mum. Before reading the FAQ’s on your site I had thought maybe Mrs. McCaffrey was grooming you for taking over the Pern series, although it was her publisher who asked you to continue the series when she is not able I am very glad you chose to do so.

I do have a question about the watch-wher in Dragonflight. After reading Dragon’s Kin, I was curious if the watch-wher’s name,in dragonflight, would have been lesk? I know this sounds trivial, but you explained a lot in Dragon’s Kin.

Any way, again, thank you for continuing Pern for all of us fans of Pern.

Hi Rhonda,

It was my pleasure. Mum and I have been looking for a while to do a collaboration. We’re hoping to do a few more, too!

Actually, as I mentioned in Dragon’s Kin, watch-whers associated with Holds tend to take their name from the Hold. So Ruatha’s watch-wher would be either Rusk or Ruask (probably Ruask). Watch-wher’s names always end in -sk just like dragon names always end in -th.

Cheers,
Todd
