Mum’s interviewed in the November Locus Magazine

Mum’s interviewed in the November Locus Magazine

Mum has an interview in the November 2004 edition of Locus magazine. That’s the interview we did with Charles Brown at the Roosevelt Hotel when Mum was speaking to the Writers of the Future here in Los Angeles this August.

Those of you who regularly get Locus might find the interview interesting. Those of you who don’t get Locus, might find it at your local bookseller or newsagent.

Locus, for those of you who haven’t heard of it, is like the Hollywood Reporter for science fiction and fantasy.

Orycon26

Orycon26

I got back from Orycon26 last weekend but haven’t got it together to mention it.

Orycon is the yearly convention in Portland, Oregon. I can’t remember when I first went. It was definitely more than 10 years ago and maybe even more than twelve. I spent some time talking with Patty Wells about it, but neither she nor Ariel Shattan could remember better than I.

I got to re-acquaint myself with many of the marvelous folk up in Oregon and Washington, including some of my fellow Clarion ’92 folk like Cindy Ward, Mark Bourne, and, of course, Sonia Lyris.

I got to play “Are you a Werewolf” once and watched another game played out but as it started at midnight and I had a 10 o’clock panel the next morning, I couldn’t stay.

If you haven’t been to Orycon, you should check it out. It’s a fun time.

The incredible Incredibles!

The incredible Incredibles!

I had a lot of fun watching the new Pixar film, “The Incredibles.” Lots of fun and I quite quickly forgot that I was watching animation and got stuck into the story.

Letter from Chad

Letter from Chad

Hi Todd,

I own (will own as of January 2005) every piece of Pern and Pern-related literature available. One question has always nagged me: What do the dragons look like? I ask because the Dragons depicted never seem to look the same, neither on the book covers, nor in supplementary literature such as the DRAGONLOVERS GUIDE. Based upon the physical descriptions conveyed by Anne and yourself, I personally imagine that the dragons conform to the general shape and physiological form of the gold Queen on the cover of MORETA: DRAGONLADY OF PERN. What say you?

With Regards,
Chad.

PS: Happy Holidays!

Hi Chad,

Hmm, I’d say that the dragons look most like the drawings done by Colin Saxton for Mum. He’d done one very nice colored pencil drawing and then Mum and he got together for a “definitive” version which, if memory serves, became the cover of one of UK hardcover printings of Dragonquest.

Happy Holidays to you, too!

Cheers,
Todd
