Question from Barbara

Question from Barbara

Which is more `black?’ Deep Space – Deep Sea at night- or – Between….

I’d have to say between. Between is nowhere, it’s a complete absence. Actually, ‘black’ doesn’t so much describe it as ‘nothing.’

Todd;

I was wondering if you or your mum were planning on working on a book that takes place after “All The Weyr’s of Pern?” As that book was not finished… I saw at least 3 things that still needed to be addressed:

– I have a hard time believing that F’lessan and Galanth will never be able to fly again. “Dragon’s are meant to Fly when Thread is in the Sky.”

– The idea of Toric getting away with all that he is doing and has done makes me angry and I would love to see him get his…

– and right now I can’t think for the life of me what the 3rd was! Ugggghhhh!

My own mum got me into Pern a year ago and I didn’t think I would like and now I am truly hooked to all things Pern.

Your own writing is wonderful and carries the same flavor as your mum’s. Keep up the great work.

I am trying to write my own book and know how hard it can be. I have been writing it for the past 8 years not easy when raising a family, I am almost done with it though, even if I never get it published I feel that I had to do this for the people in my book. They truly come alive.

Well, I am rambling. I was just wondering what was going to happen during the Last Pass of the Red Planet.

Samantha 🙂

Samantha,

You mean “The Skies of Pern,” not “All the Weyrs of Pern,” don’t you? Either way, the answer is that I don’t know whether there will be another book. I think that really depends upon Mum.

I’m glad that you’re writing. I understand what you mean about having to do it for the people in your book. That sounds quite promising! Finish it, send it out, start another.

Mum didn’t really get into writing until all her children were in school and then she hired a next-door neighbor to baby-sit after school was out so that she got several hours a day of uninterrupted writing time.

When Mum can’t remember something she’ll say, “Data retrieval error.”

Cheers,
Todd

Todd,

Well done!!! You have done your mother proud.
Don’t take to long with getting another out.

Thank you,
Lynne

Lynne,

Thank you!

I’m afraid, however, that I *am* taking long getting the next one out. I’ve got the lead work on “Dragon’s Fire” and while I’d like to have finished it back in December, the book’s being difficult. Fortunately, my editor has said that she’d rather have a good book late than a bad book on time (which amounts to the same thing because she just won’t take a bad Pern book — she’s been editing them for over 20 years now).

Cheers,
Todd

Hi Todd!

I REALLY enjoyed Dragonsblood. In fact, having read it, I was so reluctant to leave Pern that I am now re-reading ALL the other books on Pern (I think I have each and every one your mother and/or you have written).

I am so glad you and your mother elaborated on the watch-whers in Dragon’s Kin. For me they have always been a case of “so ugly they’re cute”. As a trainer of horses, it is hard for me to read about a sensitive, intelligent entity being so maligned and misunderstood as the watch whers typically are on Pern. Any chance there will be a book about Nuella and her work with the watch-whers?

Terry

Hi Terry!

Oooh, I do so love it when someone asks a great leading question! Yes, indeed, there will be a book with Nuella and her work with watch-whers. You might have noticed that in Dragonsblood her watch-wher is referred to as a gold, not a green. That’s NOT a typo (snif).

However, right now Mum and I are working on “Dragon’s Fire” and after that we’ll be working on “Dragon’s Harp” (or “Dragon’s Heart” — names are always subject to change).

I suspect after that I’ll be going back to follow on from Dragonsblood before I write more of the prequels. But we’ll see.

Cheers,
Todd

P.S.: I’m glad that you liked Dragonsblood and that it’s inspired you to go back and read the whole series! Wow, what a compliment!
