Letter from Koolness

We Have Pernese Friends up and running. I’ve asked that Anne and Jody Lynn Nye give us an update every now and then so we can keep our members filled in with what the authors are doing.

Can I get you to do the same. We’ll post whatever you tell us in the forum. Also is it possible for you to come into our chatroom and speak to the few members that we have about Dragons Blood? I just purchased my copy and have yet to start reading but I would love you have you in to chat with us in the near future.

Kool

Hi Koolness!

Good to hear from you! You forgot to send me link info but I looked it up. (It’s Pernese friends for those of you who’d like to chat with fellow Pern fans. The site also contains links to several other Anne McCaffrey fan sites.)

I’m a bit leery of MSN because I just heard that they have a worm that’s been upgraded to a medium-level security threat but I’ll see if I can’t drop in on the bulletin board — and maybe I’ll risk a brief chat.

Cheers,
Todd

Hi Todd,

Just finished reading Dragonsblood. Wonderfully well done. Thank you so much. It was a genuine Pernese jewel, sadness, joy and all. And I was delighted to see that, as when your mum writes, those Dragonriders still eat well! What I wouldn’t give for a cubby near the lower kitchens.

I’m glad to hear you’ve got some other realms to explore as well. I’m looking forward anxiously to your next book. And the next…and the next…

David

Hi David,

I’m glad that you liked Dragonsblood. And, yes, the dragonriders eat well. I think it comes from our (Mum’s and my own) collected culinary interests. We’re planning on exploring the different dishes served on Pern — certainly hot foods down Southern Boll and Igen way but hot Mexican-style or hot Indian-style? Cooking on Pern!

I might tease everyone at Aggiecon with a bit of “The Sword of Air” which is a book I’m slowwwwwllllyyy working on.

Cheers,
Todd

I don’t know if you’ll remember, I’m the woman who wanted to see you cry tonight at Barnes & Noble in Huntington Beach. I know you said something at the end but since I’m hard of hearing, I didn’t catch it and I forgot to ask you later.

I know you could ask for, and find, someone to read with you in any city you go to. . . but I’d be happy to read with you and you’re close enough that we could practice together.

Thanks again for Dragonsblood (and the picture). I’ll try to keep my whining about when the next comes out to a minimum. 🙂

Gina

Hi Gina!

Thanks for the offer. I may take you up on it. However, I think it’s a good idea that I didn’t read Chapter Seven — it’s not a short chapter and I wasn’t sure how many other people at the booksigning could wait the forty-five minutes it would take. I may read it at one of the local science fiction conventions.

I’m sorry you didn’t know about my involvement in “The Dragonlover’s Guide to Pern.” I’m sure there will be other chances to get it signed. In fact one of the people at the booksigning wants to see if she can’t get me to come down to Orange County to do more signings there. Last night’s turnout (over 40) was really great!

Cheers,
Todd

Letter from Marilyn

I just finished Dragonsblood and wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed it. I am so glad that Pern is in such good hands. I would only like to make a small request. Next time could you put a cast of characters in the book like Ms. McCaffrey often used to do? I had a little difficulty following the characters but then again maybe I’m just getting a little old. Anyway, I remember I often referenced these lists in the older Pern books and would really love to see them in future books. Again thanks for the great book!

Thank you, Marilyn!

And thanks for the “small request” — I have a complete cast of characters (Dramatis Personae), and had one for Dragon’s Kin, too, but my editor prefers to avoid them. Now I can use your letter as evidence that we should continue with them. I also wish that the book had a tables of contents so we could easily find chapters but that’s just me (I tend to want to flip to particular Chapters quickly and the page numbers change from manuscript to finished book).

Would it help you if I put the cast of characters on-line?

Cheers,
Todd
