Letter from Midnight Dragon

Letter from Midnight Dragon

Dear Todd

Thanks for the help, I could use it! As for my book, so far, so good. I’ve got about a page and a half done, but, there IS more to come. I hope to get lots of it done. We’ll see.

Sincerly

Midnight Dragon

Dear Midnight Dragon,

Keep it up. If you can do a page and a half a day, your novel should be done in less than a year.

Cheers,
Todd

Dear Todd,

As I read all of the notes written to you since the release of Dragonsblood, I try to find some compliment that has NOT already been paid you. I find none, so I can only add my own kudos to the growing list of fans, who are so thrilled, as am I, to see you continue to keep Pern alive for so many of us. Alive and well at that.

I, too, was skeptical of ANYONE taking over for your mum, and even more concerned of NO ONE taking over for her. Such a dilemma!!! But now I am so happy to see the craft and skill carried on, in great form!!

As a last note, I was saddened that I was unable to bring my copy of Dragonsblood to B & N in Huntington Beach to have it signed, but glad I got a bookplate last year when I was able to meet you and your mum. (I was the one with my niece Jordan, a future fan!)I do hope to meet up with you again in the future, and wish you all my best in your future writing, and much speed!! (read: Can’t wait for the next one!!)

Best wishes!
Michele

Dear Michele,

Thank you. I had the same dilemma as you — Mum has done such an excellent job in her writing that I was very afraid I’d not be able to do her justice with my writing. I’m glad to hear that as far as you’re concerned, I did okay.

My own personal challenge is to do better than Dragonsblood — a tough goal.

I’m so glad that you had the bookplate. If you come by the Barnes&Noble when Mum and are signing this summer, I’ll be happy to sign the book for you as well.

Cheers,
Todd

WOW…I just finished Dragonsblood. I couldn’t put it down. My husband knows when a new dragon book comes out he won’t talk to me for a few days. I finished it in ONE day. I just check out from this world and I “move” to Pern. You have caught the world and continued it without a slip in time.

Your “Mum” has every right to be very proud of you. I would be if I was her.

I especially liked learning more about the watch-whers and how they fought thread. I cried (many hankies), laughed, felt a connection with the characters, especially Tullea. Maybe I’m in two times at once and that may explain a lot. I have been a BIG fan of Pern since the beginning. I sarted reading in the early 70’s when my own Mom gave me Dragonflight and The White Dragon. I will wait…with just a little patience for the next books.

Your friend in Pern,
Karen

Karen,

Thanks. I’m glad that you liked Dragonsblood — and laughed and cried (there are a lot of tears in the book). I still get choked up when I think about the last line of “Wind Blossom’s Song” and I can still feel Lorana’s amazing but tearful joy when she recognizes Grenn in the locket but it’s only when someone like you lets me know that you felt it too do I really feel like I’ve done Lorana and the rest of the characters in Dragonsblood proper justice.

Mum and I are working away on filling in more background, busily writing “Dragon’s Fire” which follows on from “Dragon’s Kin” and then we’re going to follow Kindan as he arrives at the Harper Hall from Camp Natalon.

Again, thanks.

Cheers,
Todd

There is no need to reply to this really. I just want to say a great big thank-you for taking me back to Pern. Your book Dragonsblood was a happy surprize to find and I could not have found it at a better time. The books you and your mom have written have been a wonderful addition to my life. So, again, thank you both.

Thank you! I’m glad that you liked Dragonsblood. I know what you mean aobut “a wonderful addition” — Mum’s books are special. We all know that I’m not just saying that because she’s my mother and she might hurt me if I didn’t .
