Letter from Nhorad

Dear Todd…

Hi todd, it’s “me” again. I was just curious if you got my letter, I noticed you have’nt written me anything in awhile. As a matter of fact, I doubt I’m the only person who has written you since last month. Unless I missed my letter of course. I was just checking to see if something was the matter. Oh! Before I forget, my “weekly” update on my book, I am currently on page 8, I do roughly a page, to half a page a day. I don’t rush things do I? Lol. Well, nice to hear from you again.

Your Drakonic Friend..

Nhorad

Dear Nhorad,

Yes, I did (as you can see below) get your letter. I had a stack of letters and just got to them today (as you can also see). I usually wait to get a few letters in before I respond and let it get out of hand this time.

Cheers,
Todd

Todd,

Have been a follower of Pern for several decades now and eagerly await each new addition to the history/mythology.

Some questions of family, though, in Dragonsblood: Dragonsdawn identifies Wind Blossom as Kitti Ping’ GRANDdaughter, yet she is clearly the daughter in DB. Also, I believe that Sean’s last name in DD is Connell, but Seamus is O’Connell in DB. Any comments?

Steve,

The daughter/granddaughter issue was discovered in early drafts. It turns out that the US edition of Dragonsdawn incorrectly identifies Wind Blossom as Kitti Ping’s granddaughter. In the UK edition, Wind Blossom is Kitti Ping’s daughter. Mum was the ultimate arbiter of the issue and she declared “She’s her daughter. I would never write across generations like that.”

However, on the second issue, I say EEEK, EEEK, and again EEEK! I goofed. I didn’t catch it and if any of the early readers (including Mum and my sister) caught it, I didn’t hear it. I will be sure to get it fixed in the paperback edition. Good catch, sir!

I can only say by pitiful way of excuse that an O’Connell would be head of the clan while Connell would merely be a member of the clan (way, way, way, back in the days of clans in Ireland.)

Cheers,
Todd

Dear Mr. McCaffrey,

Hurray!!!! I have just finished Dragonsblood and I am very impressed. I am one of your mum’s biggest fans as I own every book she has written including a few signed first editions and I am thrilled that you have stepped into Pern with such awesomeness (I know that isn’t a word.) I had been reluctant to read it because I didn’t want to be disappointed but I just had to write and say BRAVO!!!!! Not everyone can make me cry and not be able to put your book down. Way to go!

Sincerely your newest fan,

Deborah

Dear Deborah,

Please, feel free to call me Todd.

I’m glad I didn’t disappoint you. Believe me, I was very worried about writing on Pern and was only willing to do so because I felt that Dragonsblood was such a great idea (I had the idea for it long before Mum and I wrote Dragon’s Kin).

It really means a lot to me that you liked it.

Cheers,
Todd

Dragon’s Blood was awesome! When is the next one? Thanks for a great read.

Angela

Angela,

Mum and I are working on the next one now. It’s going to “follow” (I use the term loosely) from “Dragon’s Kin” and be another prequel to Dragonsblood. So far it is turning out to be very interesting.

Cheers,
Todd
