Are you aware that in “Dragonsblood” you constantly referred to Wind Blossom as Kitti Ping Yung’s daughter, but (as stated numerous times in Dragonsdawn) she was actually her granddaughter?

Yup! It caused no amount of international discussion when one of my first readers noticed it.

The problem is with the US edition of Dragonsdawn. In the UK edition, Wind Blossom is correctly referred as Kitti Ping’s daughter. When I say correctly, I mean, of course, that the matter was referred to Mum who said, “I would never have written about a multi-generational conflict.”

We’re hoping to get the problem solved in the next printing of Dragonsdawn (which means, of course, that all the earlier editions will slowly become collectibles).

Cheers,
Todd

Hi Todd,

I’ve been a fan of the Pern series for years. Now I’m adding you to my list of great storytellers. Just finished Dragonsblood. It was hard to put down. Thank you so much for helping your “mum” keep Pern and its dragons alive and well. I look forward to your next book about Pern.

Pat

Hi Pat,

Thank you! I’m glad that you liked Dragonsblood! (Originally it was going to be “Dragon’s Blood” but when Mum started referring to it as “Dragonsblood,” I decided to bow to her superior wisdom.)

Mum and I are working on a sequel to Dragon’s Kin. I’ve got several ideas for a sequel to Dragonsblood as well.

Cheers,
Todd

Oh, bother!

I re-read the entire Pern series religiously every year, sort of an exercise in bliss. This year has I looked forward to my in-depth sessions with greater anticipation because Dragonsblood was coming out….Alas.

Now that I’ve finished your delightful book, I can’t STOP READING! In the last 3 months, I’ve read the entire series TWICE and am now in my THIRD round!!!! Perhaps this is not unusual among the Dragon fan folk, but I have never been an obsessive person…yet I find that in my spare time, I only want to be on Pern….

I look forward to Dragon Fire and Dragon Harp (Heart) but PLEASE tell your mother that MANY of her fans are absolutely DEMANDING that she write more about the 9th pass and afterwards! Do NOT leave us in the lurch like this!

And DO hurry! I hate it so when authors do not write fast enough for me!

Sara,

Don’t you just HATE slow writers? I can’t imagine their gall in not writing fast enough. And no, I’m not being facetious. I can recommend Lois McMaster Bujold’s marvelous Vorkosigan series, David Weber’s Honor Harrington series (military s-f), Wen Spencer’s brilliant Alien Taste and all its sequels, and even Janet Evanovich’s saucy Stephanie Plum mysteries — and probably more. And I’ve re-read most of those series and eagerly await the next book, too!

On the other hand, perhaps slow writing is what’s required to write good books. I guarantee that I will always do my best to write a good book — even if it takes a while.

Cheers,
Todd

Thank you!

Thank you so very much for keeping Pern alive. I just finished Dragonsblood. I tried my best to just read one chapter a night to “drag” it out and make it last, since Pern novels have been so few and far between in the last few years. But, by the 2nd night, I just couldn’t put it down.

What a triumph! I am so thrilled there is another author who can write Pern with all the “joy” of Anne McCaffrey. In 1986 my parents were getting divorced, and I came across Dragonquest at my local library. I read it all in a day, and of course had to go back and look for the first book, Dragonflight. It gave me a wonderful place to escape to when things were bad all around me. I was so afraid that it would all end someday, and now I have something to look forward to reading. Way to go, I absolutely loved it.

Sincerely,

Kimberly

Kimberly,

Thank you! I’m glad that you enjoyed Dragonsblood. I’m even more glad that you found Dragonquest and Dragonflight when you needed them most.

Sincerely,
Todd
