Letter from Marla

Letter from Marla

I just wanted to say I just finished reading Dragonsblood. I couldn’t put it down. One might wonder, what difficulty the Dragonriders of Pern might face next, or could it have something to do with the Watch-whers. Thank you so much for giving us more Pern. Some of us can’t get enough!

Thanks Marla!

Mum and I are working on more Pern!

Cheers,
Todd

Todd,

Just finished reading “Dragon’s Blood.” I admit I was a little apprehensive about this book. having read “mum’s” stories, I was worried about changes in style and content. I didn’t have to worry. You can’t see the joins!! The story style appeared no different to all that has gone before on Pern. The story was well written, with a very good plot and well defined characters. I was pleased to see that you were able to deal with a couple of mysteries as well. Why was there a secret room at Benden and why have the watchweyrs declined in favour.

Is the McCaffrey firm planning to answer some more Pern mysteries? For example, will Golanth be able to fly on his own? Will Toric get his come-uppence, and will F’lessen and Tai become an item? (I still keep re-reading Skies of Pern!).

Again, congratulations on a very well written story. Here’s hoping for many more to come.

regards,

C.A.

C.A.,

Thanks for the kind words about Dragonsblood.

I can’t say what will happen with F’lessan and Tai — I think that’s more Mum’s story to tell than mine.

However, there will be more stories and mysteries answered regarding Pern, rest assured.

Right now we’re working on a tale about firestone, currently called Dragon’s Fire.

Cheers,
Todd

Hi! I’m sure you have people write you all the time telling you that your mum is their favorite author and that they love the pern universe and they’re so happy you’re following in her foots steps and so on and so on…..

I swore I would always be one of those silent, appreciate from a distance, type fans. Guess not… guilty as decribed above. 🙂

I just finished reading Dragonsblood. You definitely have the Pern universe touch. Lorana was brilliantly done. Personally, I’m a sucker for happing endings and would have loved to see Arith and Lorana some how reunited. (All that death was a bit much for me). Over all though a great Pern universe book. Please keep them coming.

Die hard McCaffrey fan….Denise

Hi Denise,

I looked at a happy ending but it just wouldn’t happen. The die was cast long ago and the price was paid in bitter tears and with much sadness (my gut tightens even now). Arith was a marvelous dragon and Lorana didn’t deserve to lose her but together they made a hard choice made all the much worse by being the wrong choice for all the right reasons — and then ultimately being the right choice. Without Arith arriving at College, Wind Blossom would not have been able to convince the Holders and dragonriders of the First Pass to invest the last of the stonecutters in building the Ancient Rooms.

Actually, I think that as hard as the times were, Lorana got a happy ending. She was so thrilled to know that Grenn lived and that not everything she had loved had been lost.

As we’ll see in the sequel, things change!

Cheers,
Todd

Hi Todd,

Hope all is well with you and your’s this Spring Season. While I realize you have more than enough ideas floating around your noggin for more stories set in the Third Pass, I was wondering what, if you could or would, have to say about Pern before the colonists or even the EEC team arrived? Moreover, how did the Pern even survive the initial thread falls that would have started when the Red Planet was captured by Rukbat? I know in DRANGONSDAWN, that the agronomists are extremely curious about the large denuded areas spotted by their recon drones. Being that Thread devours anything organic, why didn’t the first fall or falls destroy the ecosystem? I am sorry to keep pestering you with my questions, but you and Anne are the closest things your fans have to Earthly Harpers.

With Regards,
Chad

Hi Chad,

The question of what was up with Pern before the colonists arrived is one that I’ve been pondering upon for a while. I don’t know if it’ll make a book or just remain one of those great unexplored mysteries. Your questions are good — and I’ve asked them all myself!

Cheers,
Todd
