Query from Mgt

Query from Mgt

I don’t mean this to sound nasty or cheeky, cause that’s not what I’m aiming for. Why would any author sign a contract permitting audiobooks to be made of their books and then either limit where you can sell those audios or only allow it to be made in abridged form?

The last to me would almost be as bad as murder, shredding a book down to almost nothing!

Sorry about the tone of this letter but I really love your mother’s books and yours but can’t hold them long enough to enjoy reading because I have Fibromyalgia 🙁

Before I could even have a chance at honestly answering your question, I’d have to know which book you’re referring to, and what you mean by “limit where you can sell”.

As for “abridged form”, sometimes the choice is between abridging or nothing. In the past, there were few very audiobook publishers and, even today, there aren’t that many so some choices aren’t available. I know that I’d say, given a choice between abridged or nothing, I’d go with abridged — just so people with Fibromyalgia and other concerns would have a chance to hear the books.

Also, if it’s any consolation, we read over the abridged text beforehand and have made changes when we felt it necessary.
