Letter from Meg

Letter from Meg

I just read Dragon Harper for the second time. Great story!

I noticed on your photo page a photo of you with Walter Hunt who wrote the Dark Wing books. He is our best friend so it was really neat seeing him with you!

I have all the Pern books and am delighted you are planning more books!

Thanks, Meg!

It’s been a while since I last talked with Walter. Hopefully we’ll catch up again this year!

Cheers,
Todd

A note from Linda

A note from Linda

Hi – really quick note here – I would like to see captions for most of the pictures on your photo page. The one that has the author names printed on it doesn’t need one particularly, but the rest of them do. For instance, the one of your Mum on the scooter looks as if she is handing the microphone to the young man next to her, and I would like to know if that might be Chris Paolini, or if that’s wishful thinking. Are there other authors in that picture? I do see you way in the back, but wouldn’t recognize any other authors. – Linda

Hello again, Linda!

Yeah, that’s my fault. I don’t think the other person is Chris Paolini but I’m not quite sure to which photo you’re referring. I keep meaning to do more with the photos but whenever I ask myself whether people want captioned photos or more Pern books, I always come up with the same answer!

Cheers,
Todd

Hi Todd –

Looks like you will be in SF in a couple of days. Sure wish I could get across the Bay and come see you while you are here. Afraid it’s not gonna happen, but wanted to tell you that weather impacted how soon I got my copy of Dragon Harper. Hubby dear had pre-ordered DH (he’s a great one for getting me my copies of McCaffrey books as soon as they come out!), and I was supposed to see it on my porch on Dec. 26th. But it didn’t arrive until Jan. 2nd! It had travelled many miles out of the way, to get here, starting out in Fernley, Nevada and ending up somewhere in Oklahoma -during the ice storms!- before coming back out west, and then it was only a few miles away from the house in a UPS warehouse for at least 2 days…then it went to West Sacto for a day and finally arrived back here, in El Sobrante (not too far from Berkeley). It was great reading, when I finally got my hands on it! Thanks to both of you for a terrific new Pern book! Bravo! And, more please! Since all those Harpers are so young, there MUST be a lot more stories brewing for them, right? But of course!! *grin*

Ciao,
Linda

Hi Linda,

I’m sorry we won’t get to meet but I’m glad you got your Dragon Harper and that you enjoyed it.

You’re completely correct in noting that I’ve got a whole bunch of young Harpers with potential stories brewing.

Right now with Dragonheart, I’m following a slightly different tact and will rejoin them at a later (and more interesting) time.

Cheers,
Todd

Dear Todd,

After eagerly awaiting Dragon Harper, I was not disappointed. The storyline is, as always, superb. I will admit that the part where Kindan is helping Lord Bemin tend the plague victims had me in continual tears. But then, I’m the same way about your Mother’s book regarding Robinton’s life and death (The Masterharper of Pern). Both rate at least 5 stars. Does a timeline exist of when all of the events in your’s and your mother’s books take place? I like to file my books according to the time they take place rather then when they are published. I look forward to hearing what you have to offer at DragonCon. Thank you so much for filling in the blanks in your mother’s universe. Please thank your mother for creating the universe as well.

Sincerely,

Jane

Dear Jane,

Yes, there is a timeline. You can find it here.

Cheers,
Todd
