Question from Ruth

Question from Ruth

I was wondering if the Dragonriders movie(s) will come to pass. I read these books over 30 years ago and have been dying to see them on the big screen. I would love the see the expressions in the dragons’ eyes and just the story in general. The latest postings I have read were dated April 2011. Is it ever going to happen?

It would be cool to see the Pern come to life, wouldn’t it?

Unfortunately, it has yet to happen.

We keep our fingers crossed!

Dear Todd McCaffrey,

I just wanted to take the time to let you know how much of an impact your mom’s writing had in my life. Growing up I had two visual disabilities, anomalous retinal correspondence and dyslexia. This made reading extremely difficult, but luckily I had people that cared. My parents, teachers and research scientists who made it possible for me to overcome my disabilities. In high school I discovered the Pern series and fell in love with it. We were living in Santa Barbara at the time and my local book store was the Andromeda Bookshop. I remember your mom having a book signing there and I brought my most favorite book of hers, the White Dragon. She was my J.K. Rowling of the time that opened up the door to reading. I so wish I could have had the opportunity to meet her again and thank her for creating such a wonderful world for me with her books. I wanted you to know just how grateful I am for what your mom did with her life and what you are doing now. Life is to damn short to not stop and thank the people who made our lives better.

Sincerely,

Shaun

Dear Shaun,

Thank you so much for your kind letter! I’m glad that you had a chance to meet Mum and to dive into the world of Pern.

And you’re right — life is too damn short!

Thank you,

Todd

Thank you for stepping in and continuing to write for Pern. I had feared that the magic in the stories was lost with the passing of your mother. You have done admirably and while not the same magic, it has it’s own feel that is still familiar.

I look forward to your next book.

Thanks,

Will

Dear Will,

Thanks for your letter!

Mum, in her Will, specifically singled myself and my sister, Georgeanne (Gigi), as the people she wanted to write on Pern.

Hopefully, soon, you’ll be able to get a taste of Gigi’s brilliant writing.

Cheers,

Todd
