Letter from Brent

I just finished Dragon’s Kin and have a couple of questions.

What happened to Tarik at the end of the book? It sounded like he was pretty horrible to Kinden and kind of evil by haveing the air pumps going the wrong way but there was no mention of a punishment. The book just ended with no closure.

Was this supposed to be more of a young readers book than the rest of the Pern books? Everything just seemed to easy and simple. It didn’t require the amount of thought that your mother’s Pern books do.

It was a great story and I can’t wait to read your next effort.

Brent, you’re absolutely correct. Dragon’s Kin was contracted as a young adult book, much like Dragonsong, Dragonsinger, and Dragondrums.

Tarik will get his comeuppance. When we (Mum and I) looked at that issue, we realized that sorting him out would require another chapter which would have been anti-climactic. We thought it was pretty obvious that something would happen to him — and it will.

Cheers,
Todd
