Available Now!

City of Angels is the story of what happens when the first artificial intelligence is born.

I’ve just sent the latest version to my agent who assures me, that while we’re looking for a publisher, I can offer a version as an electronic book.  (Once we get a publisher, I’ll stop selling this edition.)

I’d intended to publish it as Todd Johnson — my “maiden” name — but it turns out that there is already one (and maybe two) Todd Johnsons published.  So, in deference to him/them, I’ll stick with Todd J. McCaffrey.

I’ve uploaded both Kindle and Nook versions which are available on their respective websites.

[Update: I’ve changed the cover to make it more viewable on the various eBook readers.]

  1. In my stack of unfinished stories is a story of an under-appreciated AI that is too smart for the job she was designed to do. Of course, that all changes when she is called upon to perform a task that only she can do, and in the process, make a decision whether to continue her existence, since doing so would mean the death of those she is assigned to protect. This started as a back story, but I thought it was more interesting than the other story I was working on at the time.

I find it curious that the idea for this story came about around the same time as your “Angels” story was broached with your mother. The really weird part was the idea came about from a reflection on some implications from “Universal Solder”, perhaps one of the worse movies that I sat through.

I am eager to see your treatment of the subject. Your mother’s treatment of the subject was to make AI’s somewhat less than human, while you seem to make it other than human.
