Letter from Pat

Letter from Pat

Dear Todd –

This is simply a very long overdue “Thank you”, for continuing the Pern series so seamlessly from where your amazing mother left off. I’ve been a McCaffrey fan for approximately 31 years, thanks to my sister who gifted me a boxed set of three paperback books. The first book was The White Dragon and I’ve been hooked ever since and I’ve read – and purchased – every book that has the McCaffrey name on it. Finances made me stop purchasing any books shortly after your second co-written book but I am now catching up.

I wish you the same success your mother enjoyed and look forward to many more years of escaping to Pern.

Again, thank you for the many hours of enjoyment your writing has provided.

Sincerely,
Pat

Dear Pat,

Thanks!

Glad to hear you’re able to catch up (I understand about finances, there’s a reason we talk about “starving artists”).

Not many years okay I came to the realization that to write on Pern I would have to write better than Mum. I mentioned that to her in one of our phone conversations and she told to go for it (with her undertone saying, “Good luck!”). She’s a hard act to follow but that makes it all the more interesting.

Cheers,
Todd

  1. I so agree that you took the rains(sp) so well without missing a beat. You do your mothers work proud. I send also my heartfelt condolences about your mother. I just found out. I hope that us fans can hope to see many more years of Pern. I have often thought of other storylines in and around you and your mothers work. It is amazing what you can think up when your going down the road. Being a truckdriver I have too much time to think. Keep it up.
