Letter from Tom

Hi Todd,
Will you write the final Lessa book you mentioned before that your Mum was going to write ” After the Fall”?

I think the ones you wrote are good almost up to her standard.

All the best writers have left us Heinlein, Asimov, Clark & McCaffrey only Elizabeth Moon and you left.

Best Wishes Tom

Hi Tom,

Well, now, I don’t think we’ve lost all the best writers! I know that Mum would have disagreed, too! If you haven’t had the chance to read Lois McMaster Bujold’s Vorkosign series, or David Weber’s Honor Harringotn series, or Patricia Briggs’ Mercedes Thomson books or Seanan McGuire’s October Daye series, then I could see how you might perhaps think so! (Not to mention Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files or countless other good reads.)

I think that we’re getting many very excellent new writers and I’m pretty sure we’ll continue to do so (else reading would get very boring).

Don’t forget Elizabeth Ann Scarborough who not only collaborated with Mum but also wrote many great novels on her own, including the Nebula-Award winning Healer’s War.

As for After the Fall is Over, we’re still trying to get the Estate sorted out and that’s taking a great deal of effort from my sister, Georgeanne Kennedy. I’d like to work in concert with her on anything that we do with After the Fall… because, per Mum’s Will, she is the other person who is allowed to write on Pern.

Anyway, I think you’ll find there are lots of great reads out there and I certainly hope that there won’t be a dearth of new authors to fill the shoes of Asimov, Heinlein, and McCaffrey (don’t forget Silverberg!)

Cheers,
Todd
