City of Angels

City of Angels

A long time ago I described this novel to my mother. Her response was: “If you don’t write it I will!”

She read it in manuscript before she died and told me, “I think you’ve got a blockbuster here!”

What’s it about?

Sometime in the near future, maybe just tomorrow, there may come a totally new form of life on this planet. An artificial intelligence, or AI.

What will it want? How will it perceive us?

One thing’s for sure – the world will never be the same again.

This is the story of the City of Angels.

I’ve updated and revised this second edition of City of Angels (along with a cool cover).

It’s more of a mainstream science-thriller than my traditional science fiction (or science fantasy).

Available in eBook format for Kindle, Nook, and Kobo. Also in paperback!

I hope you’ll give it a look.

  1. Todd, I’m almost finished with City of Angels (ebook) and have enjoyed it greatly. Very original story, strong characters excellent pacing. Only two problems found; first that it is in extreme need of a good line edit and second that I have a little difficulty with the about-face of the Egan character. He goes from greedy, selfish, domineering bad guy to generous, world-centered good guy a little too quickly. As for the editing, I certainly understand it as I work in word processing myself and know how easy it is to leave tags from a previous version of a sentence in the rewrite, but there are waaaay too many of them in the book. Conclusion? I’m looking forward to reading more of your original works. Great going!

    P. S. Get a good proof reader. 🙂

  2. Marilyn,

From the sound of it you’re reading the first edition. You can tell by checking the copyright page (and the cover has better graphics). For the second edition, I hired a good editor/copy-editor and did no small amount of tweaking.

    Cheers,
    Todd

  3. I’m glad to hear it. 🙂 However, I’m not going to buy it again to get the cleaned up version. What I purchased was the Kindle edition on Amazon after I saw the notice of it on your web page. Again, I very much enjoyed the story. Your mom was right. (Amazing how often they are.) I’m glad you wrote it.

  4. I totally understand. But if you feel the urge, feel free to let me know what typos you found so that I can get them corrected in the future. (If you do, please try to include enough context so that I can locate the error – thanks!)

  5. Love the Dragon of Pern stories, will you be continuing with the series? Love your work and your mom’s.

  6. Well, someone will be continuing the series. My sister, Georgeanne, is also specifically entitled to write on Pern. I have more ideas for the Third Pass but am taking a break at the moment to pursue some of my own ideas.
