Letter from Tisha

Letter from Tisha

Dear Mr. McCaffrey,

I just wanted to tell you how much I’ve enjoyed the “Pern” novels you’ve written. I’ve read some of the reviews on various book Web sites, and am dismayed by the hate showed by many readers who say your books aren’t “Pern” at all. They are Pern, just a different time and circumstances on Pern. I’m just grateful you’re continuing the magnificent series started by your mother. I first discovered the Dragonriders series when I was 12, (I’m 39 now.) and have read every single book, more than once. I re-read the original trilogy at least once a year.

Really, I just wanted to say thank you, and keep up the good work.

Dear Tisha,

Wow! Thanks!

I really appreciate your kind words.

Cheers,
Todd

  1. I agree Tasha. Yes Todd your Pern books are obviously different than your moms. This is a no brainer since you are not her. But I have purchased every Pern book and will continue to. I got my oldest daughter hooked on Pern too. This series are my go to books when I want to escape. I will confess I am ANXIOUSLY awaiting to next book after “The Skies of Pern” I understand with the passing of your mom it will be difficult to finish her last project. I will happily wait and then scoop it up when it is released.

You have fans Todd. Ignore the complainers, they are ALWAYS around.

  2. Dear Todd,
As you know (since I wrote previously) I identify strongly with what Tisha wrote.
I do have one complaint about your stories – they were over too fast! I inhaled three books (Dragon’s Time, Dragon’s Blood and Dragon Girl) as if they were one short story….
I remain curious about the big cats in various points throughout Pern history – dangerous, cause of plague, possibly not trying to hurt people/dragons?
It must be rather stressful to know that there is so much anticipation for more stories to come, especially when the bar has been set so high (by you as well as your mother). In addition, my own experience says that stories have a tendency to come when they feel like it and not necessarily when the writer wants them… Basically what I want to say is – thank you for what you have done so far. When (and if) more can come I and many others will be very happy.
    (Im)patiently 🙂 ,
    Forest Rain
