Letter from Chad

Dear Todd,

Thank you for taking the time to reply to your fan mail, I appreciate it.

I had another question/comment for you, here goes. I am the proud owner of the “Atlas of Pern,” both editions of the “Dragon Lover’s Guide to Pern,” and “The People of Pern,” all of which I highly recommend my fellow Pern fans read through. In any case, has the idea of a fully inclusive “Tourist’s Guide to Pern,” book ever been considered? Specifically, has anyone ever thought about creating a reference book that contained detailed sketches of ALL the Holds, Halls and Weyrs mentioned in the novels?

While “Atlas,” and the “DLG,” both contain wonderful illustrations of the better-known Holds and Weyrs, I have always wanted to see sketches of Tillek Hold and Telgar Weyr for example. Any chance I’ll see this come to fruition?

With Regards,
Chad.

Dear Chad,

Well, I don’t know. I’ve thought of something similar myself. The trouble is that it takes a lot of time and hard work to put together — not just from the compiler but from Mum and/or myself.

You have to remember that Pern changes over time. So not only would you want a good illustration of Telgar Hold in the Ninth Pass (Lessa’s time) but possibly in the Sixth Pass and the Third Pass, and maybe others.

In fact, what I was thinking was something that could allow expansion so that information about future books could be added later. I don’t know quite how to do that in handy trade paperback format.

And, again, if it’s a choice between more Pern books and the “Tourist’s Guide”, which would you take?

Cheers,
Todd
