Letter from Devin

Hey, 3 things, has Dragonsblood got a pub. date or been accepted yet? Also, I’m working on some books of my own so watch out for “The Realmers”! Now, finally, a query that’s really been nagging at me: will green dragons lay eggs when Thread is done? (I hope!)

Thanks,
Devin D. H.

Hi Devin,

Let’s see — I’ve sent in Dragonsblood and the editors are reading it. I haven’t heard a firm pub date but my understanding was that they were hoping for a release around the same time as Dragon’s Kin came out last year.

Have you got a pub date for your book?

Will green dragons lay eggs? I dunno. I haven’t considered the idea. Greens go sterile when they chew firestone. I suspect that greens will probably still chew firestone — if only to set backfires during fire season — so I suspect that a green laying eggs would be a rarity. Also, it’s not clear whether the eggs would be well-formed (although it’s pretty much a given that a green could only hatch blue and green eggs).

I don’t really imagine a future Pern where everyone gets a dragon. It was posited that dragons Impress those with sufficient empathic and telepathic skills. Not everyone has them. Fire-lizards are more easily Impressed but still not everyone has one — and some people don’t keep theirs because they don’t know how to treat them properly.

Cheers,
Todd
