Letter from Kathleen

Sorry to bother your mailbox again but I finally got a hold of Dragon’s Kin. My dad laughed at me that I took three days to read the book. ;-; Three horrible days of not having time enough to finish it. I was at work wondering what would happen to Kindan and who was Nuella forever!

Then yesterday I finished it! ^_^ Which leaves me confused… about when did all this happen. Is it before the last pass of thread? But then how did they know of dolphins and the tripping through time. Because didn’t they forget that and Lessa figure it out again? ^^; or am I just over analyzing or something?

Kathleen

Hi Kathleen,

I’m glad you enjoyed Dragon’s Kin. To help with your confusion, Dragon’s Kin is set in the 2nd Interval not quite 500 Turns after the colonists first came to Pern. In contrast, Lessa’s time is 2500 Turns (Ninth Pass) — two thousand more Turns — after the colonists first came to Pern.

So, yes, lots of things were forgotten between Nuella’s time and Lessa’s time.

If you were to read the books chronologically, you’d start with Dragonsdawn, then “The Chronicles of Pern: First Fall”, then Dragonseye, then Dragon’s Kin, “Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern”, and so on.

I hope that helps!

Letter from Bats

Hi Todd
Bats lives in a small sea-side area in Australia, so book
news is hard for me but I heard a something — is it true that
there is a Silver Dragon, Queen, ?, on the way, sorry to read about Ruth been a one-off,
one of my favourites.

Tell your Mum I found one of her early books,Restoree, found
it a bit trying to get into, but now try and take it off me!

Bats

Hi Bats

No, it’s not true about a silver dragon. Dragons are gold, bronze, brown, green, and blue. Ruth is a sport, sort of an albino dragon.

I quite liked Restoree.

Mum lives in Ireland and I’m in LA. I think she’d be happier hearing directly from you how you enjoyed Restoree. Check her website annemccaffrey.org.

Cheers,
Todd
