Letter from Teanette

Letter from Teanette

Todd,

It was great to meet you and Anne at DragonCon! I thank you for shoving my copy of Dragonskin back over to your mom and having her sign it. I don’t even feel guilty to have had 3 books signed by her when the limit was two. I take my good fortune where I get it! 🙂

I balled when you both read chapter seven! And laughed so hard when you said you realized it was the passing of the torch, so to speak, and Anne said, “I’m not dead yet!” Reminds me of my family. Great with the comeback.

And I have an apology for you too, blushing furiously. That cold you got…probably came from me. I tried my best not to give it away, did all the right things, tissues, handwashing etc. but yeah, that was me coughing my head off while you were trying to read your movie script. So take lots of vitamin C, and take care of yourself!

Would you be interested in coming to St. Louis next year or so for Archon? If so, I will let the committee know.

Take care, and thanks for the pleasure you give to us,

Teannette

Hi Teanette,

No, I don’t think you gave me the cold. Or if you did, you shared equally with the other 25,000 people attending Dragon*con this year — not to mention my usual convention habit of early to rise and late to bed which didn’t do me any good at all. I’m taking lots of C, drinking lots of liquids, and getting lots of sleep. I’m feeling better and I can’t really complain as I’ve spent some time thinking about a whole new series of books (thinking is easy, writing is harder).

The two book limit was to ensure that Mum wasn’t hogged by people wanting their entire collection signed and that her hand would survive to sign at least two books for everyone in line. Last year we closed the lines early because we weren’t sure how she’d hold up and found that Mum was still hale and able while some people couldn’t get their books signed — a situation none of us liked. This year, Mum never stopped signing as long as people were in line and her hand survived brilliantly. I couldn’t sign Dragon’s Kin without having her sign it. After all, she wrote it, too!

As soon as I’m up, I’ll be going through the first pass page proofs for Dragonsblood (what, in the old days, were called galleys) and then it’s on with “Dragon’s Fire.”

I’d like to go to Archon but I don’t know if it’ll work out, timewise. It appears that it’s the first weekend in October or so and I’ll probably be just getting back to work after Dragon*con.

Cheers,
Todd
