Letter from Amelia Rose

Letter from Amelia Rose

I just had to write again since I finished Dragonsblood last night. All I can say is WOW!!! There were parts when I cried and I also loved the ending and finding out some things about Lorana. You definitely have your mothers writing style. If it weren’t for the fact that you wrote this, I could swear that it was your mother’s making. Pern is in real good hands with you. Glad to hear that there are going to be more to come. I currently own almost everything that Anne has written, either by herself or with another author and most of those are in hardbound. I will continue to buy as long as you can write them. Again, keep up the great work.

Thanks, Amelia! I’m glad you liked it.

Cheers,
Todd

Just finished Dragonsblood. I can only say MORE. It was fascinating. I am so happy to hear you have plans for a sequel as more on Dragon’s Kin with Anne. I own both hard cover and paper back copies of the whole Pern series and have reread them every time a new book comes out. I hope to continue to do this for many years. You have your mother’s talent and it is awesome.

Thanks Rebecca!

I’m glad you liked Dragonsblood.

Mum and I are working on not one but two sequels to Dragon’s Kin. When we get those two done, I’ll probably start on the sequel to Dragonsblood.

Cheers,
Todd

Todd,

I just got Dragonsblood yesterday and am just about half way through it and love it!! I did cry at one point but it is sad to loose people we have grown to love and believe that we know. I’m not going to say more then that so I don’t ruin it for anyone if you put this one the website. My husband looked at me as I pulled a bunch of tissues out to blow my nose and wipe my eyes. He asked me if someone had died and I said yes and he said it must have been a well loved charachter and I said yes again. Just wanted to tell you that this is a wonderful book and I can’t wait to finish it!! (Probably tonight!) Thank you for continuing in your mother’s footsteps and taking such wonderful care of the people and planet we have all grown to love and know so well!!

Kater

Kater,

I know what you mean, the copyeditor told me I owe her a box of tissue. I wonder if you’re referring to Chapter Seven? Mum and I read it at Dragon*con last year and there wasn’t a dry eye in the place — and I could no more have read that chapter aloud by myself than Mum can read “The Ship Who Sang” by herself.

I hope you enjoy the rest of the book.

Cheers,
Todd

Hi Todd!

There has been a review of Dragonsblood done on the Amazon.com site and it bothers me. The person that wrote it states no one had trouble in the present books regarding timing it( Dragonflight) But I distinctly remember that both Lessa and F’Nor had trouble during their present times with that. Can you clear that up for me? I mean I have been a long time fan and I could check my books again except they are in storage! By the way I also wanted to let you know that I will be picking up Dragonsblood tonight as soon as I get off of work!!!! Congratulations on your new book!!!!!!!!

Hi Renee!

Yes, the reviewer seems to have forgotten parts of Dragonflight. In my edition, on page 215, F’nor says: “F’lar, it’s not working out! You can’t be alive in two times at once!” And the rest of the scene supports this.

More telling is Lessa’s comments on page 271 of my edition (it’s the 65th paperback Del Rey printing):

“I was at Ruatha twice. Let’s go on quickly. I’m too many in this morning….”

So it’s obvious that people being multiply in the same time causes them grief.

Of course, I also had the advantage of being able to say, “Mum, is this what you meant on page 271 when Lessa said …” And, of course, Mum had approval on the outline of Dragonsblood, read, critiqued, and approved the first draft of Dragonsblood and wrote the introduction.

But memory is a fickle thing. Many fans forget that the watch-wher at Ruatha had its wings clipped and so insist that watch-whers can’t fly citing Lessa’s watch-wher as proof.

I hope you enjoy Dragonsblood.

Cheers,
Todd
