Latest Readings

Latest Readings

I should do this more often so that people won’t get the idea that I don’t read.

I’ve got a whole stack, mostly non-fiction that I’m currently working through:

Achtung! Panzer by Heinz Guderian (the English translation)

Blitzkrieg by Len Deighton

The Great Influenza by John M. Barry — really great reading!

Death Traps: The Survival of an American Armored Division in World War II by Belton Y. Cooper

The USS Essex and the Birth of the American Navy by Frances Diane Robotti and James Vescovi — this is a marvelous read, recommended for any naval historical fans (or fans of David Weber’s marvelous Honor Harrington series).

The Emperor’s Code: The Breaking of Japan’s Secret Ciphers by Michael Smith

The Arms of Krupps by William Manchester

The World of Christopher Marlowe by David Riggs

And, for light reading, I’m re-reading David Weber’s Honor Harrington series.

I recently thoroughly enjoyed Elizabeth Moon’s “Marque and Reprisal.”

Letter from Midnight Dragon

Letter from Midnight Dragon

Dear Todd

Alwright, I’ll only change my name once a year, lol.(I’m just kidding) I’m glad you and Anne are writing more books, I can’t wait to read them. Thanks, for the tip about the “Writers of the Future”, I think I may just take you up on that. Oh, and about the “Name Change”, sorry, I didn’t mean for it to be any sort of difficulty. But I am happy with this name(it suits me perfectly, for I love midnight blue, and dragons), so for now on, I am The Midnight Dragon.

Dear Mr. Dragon,

That’s cool. Just stick to the once a year rule, okay?

No, really, I don’t care (although I might get confused) if you want to change your on line name as often as you want. I know one person who has several real names. Come to think of it, as the former Todd Johnson, I, Todd Johnson McCaffrey, am hardly in a position to cast aspersions!

The best way to check out “The Writers of the Future” is to buy their latest anthology (last year’s winners). That’ll give you an idea of what you’re up against (just say, “I can write better than that!”) and the book also includes the guidelines for submissions and some tips on writing in general.

And, if you’re really daring and can make it to Dragon*con, you might be able to get into the not-much-mentioned Todd’s own super-quicky why-do-I-keep-doing-this? writer’s one-story workshop.

Cheers,
Todd

Letter from Justis

Letter from Justis

Dear Todd,

I think that your mother is the best thing to happen to sience fiction, fantasy, and dragons in forever. I just got your book when it came out and I loved it. Keep up the good work. I can’t wait till another one comes out.

Sincerely,
You and your mom’s biggest fan

Dear Justis,

Thank you! Mum is a great writer. I have my work cut out trying to keep up with her. I’m glad you liked Dragonsblood.

Mum and I are busy working on “Dragon’s Fire” which is our sequel to “Dragon’s Kin.”

Cheers,
Todd
