Letter from Sue

Dear Mr. McCaffrey,

With pleasure, I am reading your Dragonsblood. Though I am not finished yet, I am enjoying it. However, in your next book would you please be kind enough to loose your stranglehold on my tear ducts?

Thank you.

Sue

Dear Sue,

I’m glad to hear that you’re enjoying Dragonsblood. I’m sorry about the tear ducts and can only say in my defense that I cried at least as much writing the passages you find so moving — in fact, I still get choked up just thinking about certain passages. I guess I “done good”, huh?

Cheers,
Todd

Hi Todd..

Just finished Dragonsblood and I felt I really had to tell you, “what a trip!”

I have read all the Pern books as they came out and no disrespect to your “mum”, this one is the best!

It is always so hard to return from Pern to the real world but this was a wonderful journey. Please keep Pern alive for us all, especially more about the dragons (my personal favorites) and please can you return us to more about the dolphins? Sorry to be gushing so much, just call me a true fan!

Sincerely,

Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,

Thanks! I’m glad you liked Dragonsblood. It was very satisfying to write answers to the many questions raised in Dragonquest.

There will be more journeys into Third Pass Pern. Mum and I are currently working on Dragon’s Fire and, after that, with Dragon’s Harp.

The dolphins had a cameo appearance in Dragonsblood and we may see a bit more of them in other books.

Cheers,
Todd

Dear Mr. Johnson,
I am an avid reader, I read many diffrent types but Anne McCaffrey is by far my favorite. I was skeptic about someone else writing about my beloved Pern but you did an excellent job! Thank you for Dragonsblood I loved it!

V.C.Andrews was also a favorite of mine and when she passed away I though it was the end of her stories but her “ghost writer” did her proud also.
Keep the weyrs alive!

I am hoping to see Pern brought to life on screen in the not too far future but I don’t want it manipulated in any way. I am glad Mr. Moore pulled the plug on the TV series just for that reason.

Again, excellent job on Dragonsblood.

Dear Teresa,

I had to think for a second when your message started with “Dear Mr. Johnson.” I haven’t used Todd Johnson as my name since the fall of 1993, I’m now Todd Johnson McCaffrey (I never had a middle name, so I just shoved the Johnson over one) with the full blessing of my branch of clan McCaffrey (including Mum’s late younger brother, Kevin).

I’m glad that you like Dragonsblood.

I agree with you about getting a decent Pern film. Hopefully someday we’ll see it.

Cheers,
Todd

Others may dream of retiring to Hawaii or one of the Islands, me: I dream of Pern. always Pern. and reading your letter section is a pleasure, your friends keep jogging my memory of events and happenings that may not have been remembered the same way. And keep my longing for the next book at a high level.

Thanks. We’ll do our best to keep the dream alive.
