Letter from Jason

Hello Todd,

My name is Jason and I have read the Pern and Pegasus Series. I my question bothers you, please discard it. I enjoyed the Novels of the Ninth Pass the most, specifically the “Dolphins of Pern”. I was just wondering if you or Mrs. McCaffrey would consider writing a similar novel or continuation. It is nice to see other aspects of Pernese life and I hope to hear from you. By the way, I read both Dragonskin and Dragonsblood and thought they were very good.

Sincerely,
Jason Marks

Dear Jason,

Hello! No, I’m not offended by a request. I get really nervous when someone sends me ideas (For example: “How about you have the Klingons try to invade Pern?”).

Many people have asked to see more of the dolphins on Pern. As you noticed in Dragonsblood, we saw them indirectly with Wind Blossom. I don’t know if we’ll see more of them in the Third Pass, anything’s possible.

Cheers,
Todd

Dear Zodd,

Remember me the pest about “Dragonholder” not being available anymore? I did manage to find a “new never been read, bought by collector, in pristine condition” copy… It arrived at my post office in Conroe, TX in that condition, however, my mail deliverer is an idiot!!!! The copy had been FOLDED and SHOVED into my mail box 🙁 . Oh well at least it is whole, I have it and it cost under $20 to get it! I will also be attending the Nebula Awards weekend and can not wait for the chance to hopefully meet you and your mother. I was wondering if y’all would be attending either of the book signings and if so which one. I do regret that “Dragonholder” is my last book purchases for a long while as I am driving to Chicago from Houston, paying the gas and both banquet tickest for my boyfriend and myself and just can’t budget for books at the moment. Oh well. Going to the Awards is my birthday present to myself. I feel so honored to have been born the same month as you and Anne! Thanks so much for being willing to carry on Pern. I have read my Pern books so much that one has been taped together with three or four different kinds of tape (yes I do take very good care of my books!). I am hoping to be able to get my “poor” copy of “Dragonholder” autographed by both you and your mother. I am so looking forward to that weekend!

Sincerely your fan (before even having read anything by you!),

Tina

Dear Tina,

I’m so sorry to hear that your copy of Dragonholder arrived FOLDED! Eeek. That’s horrible.

Hey! Was that salutation of yours “Dear Zodd” a typo or a reference to “Decision at Doona”?

Mum will be signing books at the Friday booksigning and I’ll be signing on Sunday (I imagine that I’ll be with Mum on Friday, so if you’re stretched for time I’ll be able to sign then).

Cheers,
Todd

Hi Todd,

I’ve almost finished “Dragon’s Blood”, it’s a great book. Very well written but I’ve one question. In “Dragon’s Dawn” wind Bloosom is the granddaughter of Kitty Ping not the daughter. Is this a mistake or a confusion with “Dragon’s Dawn”?

Thanks so much,
Lynne Keeler

Hi Lynne!

Confusion is an understatement. In the UK version of Dragonsdawn, Wind Blossom is correctly identified as Kitti Ping’s daughter. Apparently the error was discovered too late to fix in the US edition of Dragonsdawn. The hope is to get it fixed in a future release. I have it on the highest authority (Mum) that Wind Blossom is, in fact, Kitti Ping’s daughter and not her granddaughter.

Cheers,
Todd

I really enjoyed “Dragon’s Blood” I would only like to request that your planned sequels not be quite so depressing!!! ( Though I am truly thrilled that there will BE sequels. Thanks for carrying on..

Dragonsblood is the start of a whole new Pass and lots of things will happen in the Third Pass, many happy, many sad.

Rumors that I have invested heavily in the stock of Kleenex and other tissue companies are, however, untrue!

Cheers,
Todd
