Letter from Carol

Hi Todd,

I just wanted to thank you and your mum very much for all of the PERN books/stories. I own them all now that my Dragon Harper has arrived- 21 PERN books + both editions of Dragon Lovers Guide to PERN, People of PERN and Atlas of PERN…now all I lack are your future PERN books and a fire lizard. (I love your mum’s Acorna Series too, I own all 10 books & both Dinosaur Planet books). I patiently await any & all of your other PERN books/stories to come out.

I was also wondering if I am correct in thinking or believing that “After the Fall” is your mum’s last PERN book or last any book for that fact? If I’m correct I say she’s definitely earned it…she needs to relax and have some fun now…away from the enjoyment of writing books.

Again, Thank you both very much!!!

Carol

Hi Carol,

Wow! Have you read Mum’s Freedom series? You might like it, I certainly did.

As for “After the Fall is Over”… I don’t know. I think it’s a question for Mum of finding both the energy and the inclination to write at the same time and, at eighty-one, that combination seems to come more rarely. We’ll just have too see.

I’m working on Dragonheart now which promises to be a big book and the first of several tightly connected books which will open up a whole new chapter in the Third Pass.

Cheers,
Todd

Hi Todd!

Just a quick question or two, something I actually asked on your Mum’s page a few years back…

1. What ever happens to Toric? Do we get to stake him out during threadfall for being an Abominator? 🙂

2. What DOES F’lar ever decide to do with himself when the pass ends?

3. Does Golly ever learn to teleport himself?

Please, I’ve been hanging on these questions for 10 and 20 years now! My arms are tired! I NEED to know! 🙂

By the way, good job on the books – your books fit right in nice and smooth… looking forward to more from you as well as your Mum. Really like the way you’re fleshing out the in-between passes!

Thank you again!

Heidi

Hi Heidi,

I have no idea what happens to Toric. Last I heard, I got the feeling that Mum felt she was done with him. I believe that Mum has made it quite clear what F’lar intends to do with himself (I’ll leave it for you to puzzle out, I believe it was mentioned in “All the Weyrs of Pern”). I don’t know if Golly ever learns to teleport himself, sorry.

I’m glad you like the work we’re doing in the Third Pass. The next book, Dragonheart, is coming along nicely!

Cheers,
Todd

Letter from David

I have been reading your books and I have found them delightful. Granted, in some of them I have found that the trials and tribulations that the people have faced to be sad and depressing but it does add to the overall effect that you are displaying.

I have some ideas that I would like to give, like Lorana impressing again. I really wished Kindan would impress. I don’t believe a former dragon rider ever impressed twice. Also freak dragons would be an interesting addition, i.e.: different colors like red and black.

I thank you for picking up the torch and continuing your mother’s legacy. I feel I shall enjoy your writing for years to come and thank you for your service to our country. I have been in the Army for 12 years and I appreciate all that you have done.

Hi David,

Thanks for writing. I was in the Army, too. I hope you’re keeping safe.

As for your suggestions, I really prefer to go with the ideas that I have. Also, Mum is adamantly set against more dragon colors and, as it’s her world, I feel duty bound to accept her decision.

You are correct, I don’t believe a former dragonrider has ever re-Impressed a dragon. It’s idea I consider often.

I really don’t want “freak” dragons, I’m afraid they would detract from the world that is Pern.

I think you’ll find Dragonheart and its sequels will prove quite interesting!

Cheers,
Todd

Question from Valerie

Question from Valerie

Hi Todd,

Do you know when Dragon Harper will be produced in paperback? This is the format my entire Pern Collection is in, and I wish to add this one when it’s available as well. I love the Pern novels.

Thank you.

Valerie

Hi Valerie,

No, I don’t know when Dragon Harper will be out in paperback. Usually there’s a year or more between hardback and paperback. I have noticed that the publisher tends to release the paperback version of the last book shortly before publishing the hardback version of the next book but I don’t think this is a hard and fast rule.

Cheers,
Todd
