Latest and Greatest

Latest and Greatest

As you may know, I’m working on Dragonheart (formerly: Dragon’s Heart) which started as a sequel to Dragonsblood and has changed significantly along the way — specifically, to tell the full story that I want to tell in all its glory, I realized that I need to write not just one very big book but four rather large books. So I am now happily at work on Dragonheart while at the same time chortling with glee over the ideas I have for the sequels. I am hoping to write in such a way as I’ll be able to have a chapter (perhaps not the first) from the next book published as an added extra to the previous book.

In other news, I hear from many people how much they have enjoyed Dragon Harper — except among those who are on a paperback diet in which case they tell me how much they liked Dragon’s Fire!

Saying too much versus saying too little

Saying too much versus saying too little

While I’m a full-time writer nowadays and I do my best to make my words as sweet as possible, I still prefer to avoid eating them unless absolutely necessary.

With this in mind, I often avoid making wild pronouncements, particularly with regards to Pern (future books or movies) so as not to disappoint.

As soon as I’m relatively certain (and have the words well-tenderized), I happily let people know what’s going on.

(I’m writing these words after having just answered some of the letters from fans that I found in my inbox.)

Anyway, if you ask me a question and aren’t fully satisfied with the answer I beg you to be patient — it’s usually because I don’t feel I have a sufficiently comfortable grasp on the issue to be more forthcoming.

Hi Todd,

I just wanted to thank you and your mum very much for all of the PERN books/stories. I own them all now that my Dragon Harper has arrived- 21 PERN books + both editions of Dragon Lovers Guide to PERN, People of PERN and Atlas of PERN…now all I lack are your future PERN books and a fire lizard. (I love your mum’s Acorna Series too, I own all 10 books & both Dinosaur Planet books). I patiently await any & all of your other PERN books/stories to come out.

I was also wondering if I am correct in thinking or believing that “After the Fall” is your mum’s last PERN book or last any book for that fact? If I’m correct I say she’s definitely earned it…she needs to relax and have some fun now…away from the enjoyment of writing books.

Again, Thank you both very much!!!

Carol

Hi Carol,

Wow! Have you read Mum’s Freedom series? You might like it, I certainly did.

As for “After the Fall is Over”… I don’t know. I think it’s a question for Mum of finding both the energy and the inclination to write at the same time and, at eighty-one, that combination seems to come more rarely. We’ll just have too see.

I’m working on Dragonheart now which promises to be a big book and the first of several tightly connected books which will open up a whole new chapter in the Third Pass.

Cheers,
Todd

Hi Todd!

Just a quick question or two, something I actually asked on your Mum’s page a few years back…

1. What ever happens to Toric? Do we get to stake him out during threadfall for being an Abominator? 🙂

2. What DOES F’lar ever decide to do with himself when the pass ends?

3. Does Golly ever learn to teleport himself?

Please, I’ve been hanging on these questions for 10 and 20 years now! My arms are tired! I NEED to know! 🙂

By the way, good job on the books – your books fit right in nice and smooth… looking forward to more from you as well as your Mum. Really like the way you’re fleshing out the in-between passes!

Thank you again!

Heidi

Hi Heidi,

I have no idea what happens to Toric. Last I heard, I got the feeling that Mum felt she was done with him. I believe that Mum has made it quite clear what F’lar intends to do with himself (I’ll leave it for you to puzzle out, I believe it was mentioned in “All the Weyrs of Pern”). I don’t know if Golly ever learns to teleport himself, sorry.

I’m glad you like the work we’re doing in the Third Pass. The next book, Dragonheart, is coming along nicely!

Cheers,
Todd
